Inexpensive Backyard Railslide
After some boredom last week, and the forecast for oncoming snow, I decided to build a railslide for my backyard. Now, if you’ve ever tried this on skis, there’s no doubt that the first time you hit a rail, you’re going to fall flat on your ass. It’s a very awkward feeling and that’s why I decided to make my own so that I don’t look like a fool in the terrain park on the mountain.
Total Cost - $25
Materials: 1 - 2×6x12 and 1 piece of 2″ x 10′ piping
Both were purchased at my local big box store, which I hate going to, but obviously the 2×6″ was in the lumber section, and the piping was found in the electrical supplies aisle.
Steps to building: I pre-drilled three holes in the wood and then used a sharp piece of metal to mark the spots on the pipe. I then pre-drilled the holes in the pipe. Using lag bolts, I secured the pipe to the board. To raise the rail farther off the ground, I drilled scrap pieces of 2×4″ to the bottom of the wood. And that’s it. Total project time was about an hour.
