Simple Water Saving Tips

Posted in Keepin' it Green by Matty B. @ Oct 16, 2007

There are a couple of simple things you can do to reduce water waste in your household.  When brushing your teeth, turn the water off while brushing.  There’s no need to have it running.  The same goes for shaving.  Rather than having running water to rinse your razor.  Fill a small container with water and shake the razor under the water.  Don’t forget to use low-flow aerator faucet and shower heads in your home as this will drastically reduce water usage.  These are just a few water saving tips that will also help to reduce utility bills for your household.

Too many lawyers with no incentive

After being witness to a recent lawsuit, I’ve noticed a few things.  The first being that the only incentive for a lawyer is the money.  Every lawyer seems to charge an insane amount of money for their services.  The best part is that they get paid no matter what.  So if you think about it, why should they care about the case?  They have no stake in it and get paid regardless of the outcome.  Reputation might be one of the only factors that comes into play, but I haven’t heard of too many lawyers displaying their wins and losses.  We need to create some sort of law that says if a lawyer loses, that his/her hourly rate is brought down to minimum wage.  This ought to give these people initiative to take stock in people’s cases.

That’s just my two cents.

Reducing non-biodegradable waste

Posted in Keepin' it Green by Matty B. @ Oct 5, 2007

Many people enjoy a morning cup of coffee or tea.  The majority of which stop at one of the more popular fast food chains and purchase it there.  Many of these chains use styrofoam cups as they retain heat extremely well.  At least point, I don’t think anyone is blind to damage this type of material can cause the environment.  So here’s an easy alternative, purchase a travel mug and make yourself an extra cup for the ride into work.  Not only will you be saving a large sum of money, approximately $500 per year, but you’ll be helping the environment too.

Or there’s the second option.  Leave yourself an extra five to seven minutes of travel time every day.  Go into your favorite chain coffee store and purchase one of their travel mugs.  Most have a refill plan in which they’ll refill your mug for a discounted price.

So please, choose one of these options and help reduce unnecessary waste.  Mother Earth will thank you for it.

Remember, a lot of little changes add up to make something huge.

Editing Mp3 tags with Mp3Tag

I had posted a while back about an Mp3 editing software that was free and was pretty good.  I’ve now found something better.  It’s Mp3tag and it’s available at http://www.mp3tag.de/en/  It’s a fantastic program that’s super easy to use.  The best part is that it’s free.  With support for many different formats and access to different tag dbs, it makes short work of the editing of ID tags, especially if you have thousands of mp3s like myself.  Definitely check it out if you need to do some updating or mass editing of your files.

Breaking the glass is half-empty mold

Posted in General Ranting by Matty B. @ Oct 2, 2007

We’ve all heard the saying, “Is the glass half-empty or half-full?” Well my friends for me it’s always overflowing. A lot of people use this saying as a barometer for someone’s personality. And for a great deal, it really is true. If you think the glass is half-empty, then you generally have a more negative attitude towards life in general. But it doesn’t have to be like that.

Someone who’s negative, tends to look for the “bad” in every situation. By doing so you’re creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you always look for the negative, then of course your life is going to be negative. It can then turn into the person being the “victim”, commonly saying, “why does bad stuff always happen to me?” I’ll tell you why, because you look for it. Most blame it on there job, and really get wrapped up in the fact that they don’t like what they’re doing. In my opinion that’s crap - do something about it if you’re that unhappy. I’m sorry, I digress. For this, you’re going to have to start out small. There’s plenty of great stuff that happens everyday. Enjoy the weather, if it’s nice out, on your way into work. Hold the door for someone when entering a store. Say hello to a random person - you’ll be surprised at the reaction and how good it makes you feel. Wave to your neighbors. Be happy that the toilet seat was down when you went to the bathroom and didn’t fall in - sorry ladies but that’s just plain funny.

My point is do something, but start small. Let’s face it, no one likes to be around someone who bitches and moans all the time. Look at Ted Kazinski. Do you think he was a happy guy. Hell no, ended up in a shack in Montana by himself trying to blow people up. It takes entirely too much energy to be negative and look at what is gets you.
