It’s alright to pay a little more

Hokay so, I’ve noticed a few common characteristics about many people living in this country. It seems like everybody wants a particular product to be the best, they want it yesterday, and they want it to be the cheapest - all at the same time. I’ve got news for you, that sure as hell isn’t going to happen. I’m sure you’ve heard that old saying, “You get what you pay for.” Well that’s entirely true and let me explain why. I work at a store that’s in a very niche market. Our primary business is selling wood stove, fireplaces, and other hearth items. However, we do sell grills and that’s what I’m going to use for this example.

What most people don’t see or hear about is how many grill manufacturers make a completely different grill for big box stores. A customer can walk into a Home Depot and look at a particular grill and see it priced say, at $399. Now, that same customer will walk into our store and say, “I just saw this grill at Home Depot for $200 less. What’s the difference?” Well my friends a lot. Many of the components are a cheaper grade material so the grill won’t last as long. Just take a look at the warranty and you’ll begin to realize the difference. God forbid, your product breaks, try getting someone to help you from a big box store. You’re better off just throwing out the product and buying a new one.

Now, this applies to many products that you buy. Everything from power drills to hair dryers. So if you’re one of the cheap ass people, who decides to save $30 and buy from a big box store, don’t complain when it breaks or doesn’t live up to your expectations, because you got exactly what you paid for. I encourage everyone, to find specialty dealers and pay a little more, to get the better quality. It’s far better in the long run.
